CAS105 Professional and Ethical Responsibility

This course focuses on the counselor-client relationship, ethical decision making, conduct description, confidentiality, legal issues, and mandated reporter training. Throughout the course, students will learn through lectures, videos, handouts, and experiential exercises; such as role plays. Upon completion of this course, students will be able to recognize the importance of ethics and professional boundaries as it relates to the addiction profession. This course meets the 45-hour requirement for OASAS initial credentialing. Exercises will focus on the 42CFR Part 2 and HIPPA, making rational decisions that focus on confidentiality and legal issues relation to substance abuse. (45 Hours)

 Required text for all CASAC modules is: Getting Ready to Test: A Review Preparation Manual for Drug and Alcohol Credentialing Exams (9th Edition). It is available at the DCC bookstore.

 Before the first day of class, we need the following three documents to keep on file according to OASAS (you will only need to submit them once for the duration of the entire program):

1)     Photo ID: We will need to make a copy.

2)     Proof of high school completion: This could also include a GED/ HSE or college transcript. It does not need to be an official sealed transcript.

For Dutchess students who have completed prior credits and wish to use a DCC transcript, you need to obtain the transcript. We are not able to obtain your transcript. You can obtain your DCC transcript here.
