Composition and Songwriting

(Ages 10-13) In this course, students will learn the fundamental aspects of music composition and songwriting. In addition to short composition exercises, they will be required to complete one long-term project resulting in their own original piece of music. Students will learn about the basics of notation, music theory, instrument design, and text setting. To fully understand these concepts, we will spend the first half of the course listening to and analyzing music from popular and classical genres from around the world. The second half of the course will focus entirely on music composed by the students, including practical workshops and group discussions about their classmates’ work.
